High End Brands to Love!

Hello!

I thought I'd do a post on some higher-end brands that do and do not test on animals because my last post was on drugstore brands.
I'm going to be honest here, my makeup collection isn't big at all. I recently fell back in love with makeup maybe a year and a half ago, and before that I essentially had Clinique bonuses I'd stolen from my mom. So anyway, my point is - my high-end collection is even more minimal.
Let's get into it:

some high-end brands I love!:

-Urban Decay
-Clinique
-Philosophy
-MAC
-Laura Mercier
-OPI (Personally, I think it's high-end)
-Tarte
-Benefit
-Too Faced
-Stila

some high-end brands that still test:

-Yves Saint Laurent
-NARS
-Dolce & Gabbana
-Shu Uemura (owned by L'Oreal)
-Shseido
-Lancome

Luckily there are less that do test!

Looking up on google if brands test or not can sometimes be confusing. A lot of the times you'll get links, say from yahoo answers that are sometimes incorrect.
For instance:

Googling whether or not Benefit tests on animals will get you a ton of yahoo answers saying YES THEY DO. But if you actually go to their website they tell you that they do not.
You're always better off trusting the company themselves rather than yahoo answers :].

Like Benefit, if you google philosophy's animal testing policies you won't get a definite answer, however, on their website they clearly state: "we absolutely do not conduct animal testing with philosophy products. we are fully committed to using alternatives to animal testing to ensure the safety of our products."

I thought I'd put here a picture of my tiny mac eyeshadow collection (in a palette because it ends up being cheaper in the long run):
L to R: Orb, All That Glitters, Crystal, Cork, Satin Taupe, Cranberry, Club, Satellite Dreams

Drugstore Brands to Enjoy and Avoid

Hello all!

Welcome to my blog... and my first post!

Shopping at the drug store can be a a bit of a pain, especially when the list of companies who do not test on animals is very long. The list for companies that do test is shorter - though it is mainly because many smaller brands belong to a larger umbrella organization; For example - Procter & Gamble (a company that tests on animals) manufactures many smaller labels such as Covergirl, Aussie, Olay, and many more.

The easiest way to be sure if a brand tests on animals is to read the back of the packaging. More often than not, it will say if it was tested on animals. If it says nothing, most of the time it is tested on animals.

Some of my favorite cruelty-free brands from the drugstore are:
-Revlon (who used to test!)
-Almay
-Milani
-Wet N' Wild
-N.Y.C. (New York Color)
-NYX Cosmetics
-Queen Helene

Some brands to avoid:
-Maybelline
-L'Oreal
-Covergirl
-Neutrogena
-Rimmel London
-Aveeno

A beautiful eyeshadow palette I bought recently is from NYX cosmetics and is called the "Nude on Nude Natural Look Kit." It contains nine neutral eyeshadows and two lip colors. It retails for $10.50 at my local Harmon Discount store, but the cost may vary where you live. For the amount of product, It's a great, cruelty-free product (a cheaper alternative to some more expensive brands!).

The palette is a small cube with a pull-out drawer underneath the shadows, with the lip colors. Six out of nine shadows are shimmery. The top three are matte shades. The shadows are quite pigmented, especially when used over a primer. The lip colors are also fairly pigmented, although I'm not a huge fan of lipsticks in pallets. The shadows have a bit of fallout as you can see in the left side of the photo, but nothing too inconvenient.

Overall, I think this is a beautiful kit with high-quality product for little money. It even replaced my desire for the Urban Decay Naked palette (a great high-end cruelty-free brand)!
